Ring Smart Lighting Installation
Motion-triggered lighting that activates your Ring cameras simultaneously, path lights that brighten when someone approaches your front walk, and a floodlight you can switch on remotely from your phone at midnight — Ring Smart Lighting does all of this, and in Southwest Florida's year-round outdoor living environment it is one of the most practical smart home additions available. 239 Smart is a locally owned, insured, and bonded Ring Authorized Partner and Certified Ring Installer based in Naples, FL, serving Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island, and Estero.

How Ring Smart Lighting Works — The Ring Bridge
Ring Smart Lighting devices require a Ring Bridge (2nd Gen) to enable smart controls through the Ring app. The Bridge plugs into an indoor outlet and communicates with Ring Smart Lighting devices via Amazon Sidewalk — a low-bandwidth radio network that operates separately from your home Wi-Fi. Without the Bridge, Ring lighting devices still function as standalone motion-activated lights, but you lose all remote control, scheduling, brightness adjustment, camera linking, and Alexa integration.
The Bridge also makes Ring Smart Lighting the connective tissue between your lighting and your broader security ecosystem. A Pathlight detecting motion at your driveway entrance can trigger your Ring camera to begin recording simultaneously. A camera detecting motion can activate nearby Ring Smart Lights. These linked device automations are configured in the Ring app and are among the most powerful features of the Ring ecosystem — and the ones most commonly left unconfigured on DIY installs.

Lighting Accessories
Ring Bridge (2nd Gen) — Required for Smart Controls
Plugs into any indoor outlet. Connects all Ring Smart Lighting devices to the Ring app via Amazon Sidewalk and enables camera linking, scheduling, group controls, and Alexa integration. Every Ring Smart Lighting installation requires at least one Bridge. We include Bridge setup and configuration in every lighting installation — it is not an afterthought.
A19 Smart LED Bulb
Standard E26 screw-base smart LED bulb for table lamps, floor lamps, sconces, and compatible outdoor fixtures. App-controlled brightness and motion-response settings via Ring Bridge. For use inside or in protected outdoor fixtures — not for direct weather exposure. A simple way to bring Ring smart lighting into your entry fixtures and porch sconces without replacing the fixture.
Motion Sensor
Battery-powered standalone motion sensor that links to the Ring Bridge. Detects motion and triggers connected Ring cameras, lights, and other devices — without being a camera itself. Useful for areas where you want motion detection coverage to trigger existing Ring devices but do not need a camera at that specific location.
Outdoor Smart Plug
Connects any standard plug-in outdoor light or device to the Ring ecosystem via the Ring Bridge — app-controlled on/off and scheduling. Useful for existing outdoor string lights, decorative fixtures, or any plug-in device you want on a smart schedule.
Ring Mailbox Sensor
Attaches to your mailbox and sends a Ring app notification when mail is delivered. Integrates with your Ring ecosystem and Ring Bridge. A small addition that rounds out a complete Ring property monitoring setup.
Transformer
For homes with existing low-voltage landscape lighting systems, the Ring Smart Lighting Transformer connects compatible existing landscape lights to the Ring ecosystem and Ring app. If you have a landscape lighting system already installed and want smart control without replacing every fixture, we assess your existing transformer and fixture compatibility before recommending this approach.
Ring Smart Lighting + Camera and Alarm Integration
The reason Ring Smart Lighting is worth the attention of any homeowner who already has Ring cameras is the cross-device automation capability. Through the Ring app's Linked Devices, you can create rules that trigger lighting and camera responses simultaneously:
- ∙ Motion on a Pathlight triggers a Ring camera to begin recording — footage of the approach path before a visitor reaches the door or camera's primary detection zone
- ∙ Motion on a Floodlight Wired activates linked Ring Smart Lights — simultaneous camera activation and perimeter lighting for both documentation and deterrence
- ∙ Ring Alarm Pro Base Station serves as a Ring Bridge — when Away mode is active, motion anywhere on the property can trigger a coordinated lighting and camera response
- ∙ Schedule-based lighting — all Ring Smart Lights can activate on a time schedule every evening independent of motion events, maintaining a lived-in appearance for seasonal Naples properties while you are away
We configure all Linked Device automations as part of every Ring Smart Lighting installation. These are not on by default and most DIY installs never touch them.
Ring Smart Lighting App Settings — Every Configurable Option
- ∙ Brightness Control: Adjustable brightness per device — set motion-triggered brightness independently from the always-on ambient dim level on supported models
- ∙ Motion Sensitivity: Per-device slider — reduce for high-traffic paths where constant triggering is not desired, increase for low-traffic areas where early detection matters
- ∙ Light Duration: How long each light stays on after motion stops — configurable per device
- ∙ Light Schedules: Time-based on/off schedules independent of motion detection — activate at dusk, deactivate at a specific time or at dawn
- ∙ Group Controls: Multiple Ring Smart Lights grouped in the Ring app and controlled together — activate all pathway lights simultaneously from a single tap or automation trigger
- ∙ Manual On/Off: Any Ring Smart Light can be turned on or off manually from the Ring app at any time from anywhere
- ∙ Linked Devices: Connect Ring Smart Lights to Ring cameras, doorbells, and Alarm for cross-device automations
- ∙ Motion Alerts: Toggle motion notifications per light on or off — useful for high-traffic paths where you want the light to activate but do not want a notification every time something moves
- ∙ Alexa Integration: Voice control and announcements through Echo devices — "Alexa, turn on the front path lights" or automatic announcements when motion is detected
Ring Smart Lighting Installation Considerations for Southwest Florida
Solar Performance in SWFL
Southwest Florida's solar resource is among the best in the continental United States. Ring Solar Pathlights and Steplights maintain reliable battery charge year-round — including through the summer rainy season, where intermittent cloud cover is offset by the intensity of available sun during clear periods. We evaluate each proposed solar location for unobstructed sun exposure before recommending solar over battery or wired options.
Ground Conditions
Ring Pathlight stakes are designed for standard soil. In Naples, ground conditions range from sandy soil that stakes easily to compacted shell rock or coral limestone that requires pre-drilling. We carry hardware to handle both and assess your specific landscape before installation.
Salt Air and Corrosion
For waterfront Naples properties within proximity to the Gulf or bay, salt air accelerates corrosion on outdoor hardware. We recommend annual inspection of mounting hardware and connections on waterfront properties.
Seasonal Property Lighting Schedules
For snowbird properties, we configure Ring Smart Lighting schedules to maintain a lived-in appearance year-round — consistent evening activation patterns that suggest occupancy during the months you are away. This is one of the most cost-effective security measures available for a vacant seasonal property and takes minutes to configure correctly in the Ring app.
Why Naples Homeowners Choose 239 Smart for Ring Smart Lighting
- ∙ We configure Linked Device automations between your Ring lights, cameras, and Alarm — not just mount the hardware and leave
- ∙ We evaluate solar viability at each proposed location before committing to a solar install
- ∙ We handle the ground conditions SWFL actually presents — sandy soil, shell rock, and concrete deck — with the right hardware for each
- ∙ Seasonal property lighting schedules configured as part of every installation for snowbird clients
- ∙ Locally owned and operated, 5-star rated on Google, Thumbtack, Yelp, and Facebook, no subcontractors
Ring Smart Lighting works best as part of a complete Ring ecosystem. We also install Ring video doorbells, Ring security cameras, and Ring Alarm systems. For traditional lighting fixture and switch installation, see our Lighting Installation page. For seasonal residents, our Private Property Watch ensures your lighting system and your home are properly monitored while you are away.
Frequently Asked Questions — Ring Smart Lighting in Naples, FL
Do Ring Smart Lights need Wi-Fi to work?
Ring Smart Lights communicate via Amazon Sidewalk through a Ring Bridge — not directly over your home Wi-Fi. The Bridge connects to your Wi-Fi; the lights connect to the Bridge. Without the Bridge, Ring Smart Lights still function as standalone motion-activated lights but lose all app control, scheduling, camera linking, and Alexa integration.
Can Ring Smart Lighting activate my Ring cameras when motion is detected?
Yes — this is one of the most valuable features of the Ring ecosystem. Through Linked Devices in the Ring app, motion detected by any Ring Smart Light can trigger a connected Ring camera to begin recording simultaneously. We configure these automations as part of every Ring Smart Lighting installation.
Is there a Ring Smart Lighting solar floodlight?
Not currently. The Floodlight Wired is Ring's only Smart Lighting floodlight available today and requires connection to an existing outdoor electrical junction box. For locations without existing electrical, the Spotlight Battery or Wall Light Solar are the available overhead lighting options in the Ring Smart Lighting lineup. If you need a high-output solar floodlight with camera capability, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro is available in a solar version and combines a camera with LED spotlights.
Do Ring Solar Pathlights work well in Naples year-round?
Yes. Southwest Florida's solar resource is excellent and consistent enough to maintain Ring Solar Pathlights reliably through the summer rainy season. We verify unobstructed solar exposure at each proposed location before recommending solar over battery options.
Can Ring Smart Lights make my vacation home look occupied while I'm away?
Yes. Ring Smart Lighting schedules maintain consistent evening activation patterns year-round — the same lights activating at the same time every night regardless of whether you are home. One of the simplest and most cost-effective security measures for a seasonal Naples property, and one we configure as part of every installation for snowbird clients.
Do I need to purchase Ring Smart Lighting before contacting 239 Smart?
No — we can supply the devices directly. Call or text (239) 970-9319 and we will design the right lighting layout for your property, handle ordering, and take care of everything from there.
