Ring Alarm System Installation

The difference between a Ring Alarm that genuinely protects your home and one that sits mostly ignored is sensor placement strategy, proper system design for your floor plan, and configuration that matches how you actually use your home. 239 Smart is a locally owned, and insured Ring Authorized Partner and Certified Ring Installer based in Naples, FL. We design and install Ring Alarm systems throughout Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island, and Estero — not just plug in a kit and hand you the app.

Call or text (239) 970-9319 or contact us here to schedule your installation.

How the Ring Alarm System Works

Ring Alarm is a Z-Wave based home security system. The Base Station is the brain — it communicates with all sensors over a dedicated Z-Wave mesh network that operates on its own radio frequency (908.42 MHz), completely separate from your home Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi congestion does not affect sensor communication, and sensors continue reporting to the Base Station even if your router goes down. Each powered Z-Wave device in the system acts as a signal repeater, extending mesh range throughout the home.

Ring Alarm vs Ring Alarm Pro — Which Is Right for Your Home?

Ring Alarm — Core Protection

The standard Ring Alarm is a complete, reliable home security system with Z-Wave sensors, a 24-hour battery backup, and professional monitoring available with a Ring Protect subscription. The right choice for most year-round Naples residents. Available in 5-piece, 8-piece, 10-piece, and 14-piece kits. Every kit includes the Base Station, Keypad, Contact Sensor(s), Motion Detector(s), and Range Extender. Additional sensors can be added à la carte to cover every entry point your specific property requires.

Ring Alarm Pro — Advanced Protection with Built-In Wi-Fi Router

Ring Alarm Pro replaces the standard Base Station with a unit that has a built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 router providing up to 1,500 sq ft of Wi-Fi coverage from the security hub itself. With an eligible Ring Protect subscription it also adds 24/7 Backup Internet — a cellular connection that keeps both your Ring Alarm and your home Wi-Fi online during an internet outage. Additional capabilities:

  • Ring Edge local video storage: Videos and Smart Alerts processed and stored locally on a microSD card (sold separately) — recording continues even during internet outages
  • Expandable backup power: Add up to four Ring Power Packs to keep the Alarm Pro and connected eero extenders running during extended power outages
  • eero Secure: Network-level protection for connected devices
  • Expandable Wi-Fi: Add eero 6 Extenders to expand coverage beyond the built-in 1,500 sq ft range

For Naples vacation homes and seasonal properties, Ring Alarm Pro is what we recommend. When you are away for six months, you need cellular backup internet keeping monitoring active and cameras recording even if your internet provider has an outage. Available in 8-piece, 14-piece, and a 13-piece bundle that includes an additional eero 6 Wi-Fi Router for larger homes needing expanded coverage up to 3,000 sq ft.

Ring Alarm Components — What Goes Into a Complete System

Base Station / Alarm Pro Base Station

The core of the system — controls all Ring Alarm devices, connects to Ring's cloud for remote access and monitoring, and includes a built-in 24-hour battery backup. The Alarm Pro Base Station adds the eero Wi-Fi 6 router, 24/7 Backup Internet, Ring Edge local storage, and expandable backup power via Ring Power Packs. The Base Station is only available as part of a Ring Alarm Security Kit.

Keypad (2nd Gen)

Arm and disarm via PIN entry. Wall-mounted or portable tabletop use. Most installations include at least two keypads — one near the primary entry and one near the master bedroom. Additional keypads available separately.

Contact Sensors (Door and Window)

Two-piece magnetic sensors — one on the door or window frame, one on the moving panel. When separated, the sensor reports to the Base Station. Battery powered, wireless, Z-Wave. Available in standard size and a smaller form factor for windows and sliding glass doors. An Outdoor Contact Sensor is also available for gates and exterior applications.

Expanding Contact Sensor Coverage Beyond the Kit

This is where most DIY Ring Alarm installs fall short. A 5-piece kit comes with one contact sensor. A Naples home with a front door, rear slider, three lanai doors, two garage entries, and a pool gate has eight or more entry points that need coverage. We size the sensor count to your actual floor plan — not to what fits in the box. Additional contact sensors are straightforward to add and dramatically increase the security value of the system. We walk through every entry point during the installation assessment and recommend exactly how many you need.

Motion Detectors (2nd Gen)

Passive infrared (PIR) motion detectors for interior coverage. Designed for corner placement — range is approximately 30 feet with a wide detection angle. For vacant Naples homes in summer: PIR sensors detect body heat against background temperature, and interior temperatures in an unoccupied home can rise significantly. We account for this in placement decisions and sensitivity settings for seasonal properties.

Expanding Motion Detector Coverage

A single motion detector in the main hallway is a start, not a complete system. Large open-plan living areas, bonus rooms, garages, and detached guest houses all benefit from dedicated motion coverage. Additional motion detectors are inexpensive to add and plug directly into the existing Z-Wave mesh without any reconfiguration of the Base Station.

Range Extender (2nd Gen)

Plug-in device that extends the Z-Wave mesh. Standard in any home over approximately 2,500 square feet or in layouts with multiple wings, floors, or detached structures where sensor distance from the Base Station would otherwise be a problem.

Glass Break Sensor

Detects the acoustic signature of breaking glass — covers windows not individually protected by contact sensors. Particularly useful for large picture windows and the wide sliding glass doors common in Naples luxury homes.

Panic Button

Portable wireless button that triggers the alarm and contacts professional monitoring when pressed. Useful for bedrooms and home offices — a discreet trigger that does not require the keypad.

Outdoor Siren

External siren that sounds audibly from outside the home when the alarm triggers. Relevant for large lots or waterfront properties where the Base Station's internal siren may not be audible from the exterior.

Add-On Environmental Sensors

  • Alarm Smoke and CO Listener: Listens for the audible alarm tone from existing smoke and CO detectors and triggers Ring Alarm when detected — no need to replace existing hardwired detectors
  • Flood and Freeze Sensor: Detects water presence and temperature extremes — critical for Naples vacation homes where an undetected water leak or HVAC failure during summer can cause significant damage before anyone notices
  • Outdoor Contact Sensor: Weather-resistant sensing for gates and exterior applications

Ring Alarm Monitoring Options

Self-Monitoring

Without a Ring Protect subscription you receive push notifications when sensors trigger, and can view sensor status and arm or disarm via the Ring app — but you are responsible for contacting emergency services yourself. Works for year-round residents who are always reachable. Even if your not here year around and you have your phone with you all the time you can handle monitoring on your own without a plan, the monitoring team is going to call you first before dispatching the authorities but you can call them yourself if needed if you don’t pay for monthly monitoring.

Professional Monitoring — Ring Protect Subscription

With an eligible Ring Protect subscription, Ring's monitoring center receives alarm signals 24/7 and contacts emergency services on your behalf. The monitoring center attempts to reach you first, but dispatches regardless if you cannot be reached. Also includes Alarm Cellular Backup, remote arm and disarm, and SOS emergency response via the Ring app. Available in all 50 U.S. states. This is what we recommend for Naples vacation homes and seasonal properties.

Smoke and CO Professional Monitoring

A standalone service — when smoke or CO is detected by compatible Ring devices, trained agents request fire department dispatch. Does not require a full Ring Protect plan.

Virtual Security Guard

Live professionals monitor your enrolled cameras, help deter unwanted activity, and request emergency backup when needed. Suited to high-value properties requiring an active human monitoring presence.

Ring Alarm App Settings and Configuration

  • Device Modes (Disarmed / Home / Away): Away mode activates all sensors including interior motion detectors. Home mode arms perimeter contact sensors only — so you can move around inside without triggering the alarm. Disarmed deactivates all sensors. We configure each mode to match your household's actual usage patterns including seasonal and vacation schedules.
  • Entry and Exit Delays: Configurable countdown timers. We set these to practical durations — long enough to use comfortably, short enough to maintain meaningful security.
  • Bypass Sensors: Temporarily exclude a specific sensor from the armed system — useful when a window needs to be left open or if a sensor is temporarily malfunctioning.
  • Per-Sensor Chirp Settings: Each contact sensor can be set to chirp audibly when opened in Disarmed mode — tells you when a door or window opens without triggering the alarm.
  • Shared Users: Add family members, property managers, or trusted contacts with their own access to arm, disarm, and view the system.
  • Ring Camera Integration: With a Ring Protect subscription, cameras and Alarm operate from a single dashboard. When an alarm triggers, immediately pull Live View on any camera for visual confirmation before or while emergency services respond.
  • Alexa Integration: Arm and disarm via Alexa voice commands. Echo devices can act as additional sirens when the alarm triggers.
  • SOS Emergency Response: Tap the SOS button in the Ring app to immediately request emergency services — available with an eligible Ring Protect subscription.
  • Ring Smart Lighting Integration: Ring Alarm Pro Base Station serves as a Ring Bridge, enabling Ring Smart Lights to respond to Alarm events.
  • Smart Lock Integration: Pair select smart locks to automatically arm your Alarm when you lock the door.

Ring Alarm System Design for Naples and SWFL Properties

Vacation Home and Seasonal Property Design

A Ring Alarm designed for a Naples vacation home is a different system than one designed for a full-time residence. It means Ring Alarm Pro for cellular backup internet, professional monitoring via Ring Protect subscription, Flood sensors at HVAC air handlers and under sinks, Ring Edge local video storage on a microSD card, and Ring Power Packs for extended backup power. The failure mode that matters most for a vacant property is not a burglar while you are home — it is a water leak or HVAC failure you do not find out about for weeks.

Large Floor Plans and Multi-Entry Homes

A Naples luxury home with 4,000+ square feet, multiple sliders, multiple garage entries, a detached guest house, or a pool entry gate requires significantly more sensors than a standard kit provides. We size the system to your actual floor plan and entry count. A 14-piece kit is a common starting point for larger homes, with additional contact sensors and motion detectors added for complete coverage.

Hurricane Season Resilience

Ring Alarm's 24-hour battery backup keeps the system running during power outages. With a Ring Protect subscription, Alarm Cellular Backup keeps monitoring active when internet goes down. Before storm season we recommend verifying sensor battery levels and confirming the system is in Away mode with professional monitoring active before you evacuate.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ring Alarm Installation in Naples, FL

What is the difference between Ring Alarm and Ring Alarm Pro?

Ring Alarm is a complete Z-Wave home security system with 24-hour battery backup and professional monitoring available via Ring Protect subscription. Ring Alarm Pro adds a built-in eero Wi-Fi 6 router (up to 1,500 sq ft), 24/7 Backup Internet via cellular connection, Ring Edge local video storage on a microSD card, and expandable backup power via Ring Power Packs. For Naples vacation homes and seasonal properties, Ring Alarm Pro is the right choice.

Does Ring Alarm work during a power outage or if my internet goes down?

Yes on both counts. All Ring Alarm Base Stations include a 24-hour battery backup (additional packs available to extend back up power) for power outages. With a Ring Protect subscription, Alarm Cellular Backup keeps monitoring active when broadband goes down. Ring Alarm Pro adds 24/7 Backup Internet — keeping your home Wi-Fi and connected devices online during internet outages, which matters during hurricane season in Southwest Florida.

How many sensors do I need for my Naples home?

More than most people expect. A 5-piece kit is designed for a small condo with one entry. A standard Naples single-family home with a front door, rear slider, garage entries, lanai access, and a pool gate can easily need 10 or more contact sensors for complete coverage. We walk through your floor plan and every entry point during the installation assessment — the right sensor count is based on your actual home, not the kit size.

Can Ring Alarm protect my Naples home while I'm away for the season?

Yes — and this is one of the most important use cases we design for. Ring Alarm Pro with a Ring Protect subscription for professional monitoring, Flood sensors at vulnerable locations, Ring Edge local storage, and Ring Power Packs for extended backup power provides comprehensive remote protection. Pair with our Private Property Watch for physical inspections alongside your electronic monitoring.

Is Ring Alarm compatible with my existing Ring cameras and doorbell?

Yes. With a Ring Protect subscription, all Ring devices share a unified dashboard and Ring Modes. When your Alarm triggers, you can pull Live View on any Ring camera immediately. Ring Alarm Pro Base Station also serves as a Ring Bridge for Ring Smart Lighting integration and supports select smart lock auto-arm functionality.

Do I need to purchase Ring Alarm equipment before contacting 239 Smart?

No — we supply the equipment directly. Call or text (239) 970-9319 and we will design the right system for your floor plan, handle ordering, and install and configure everything from there.
