Outdoors there are no walls and no ceiling to reinforce sound, so audio disappears into the yard far faster than it does inside. There are four ways we solve it, and most projects use two of them together.
All-weather soundbars — passive bars sized to the display, as a “floating mount” so they read as part of it. This is what makes dialogue intelligible at the seating area.
Polk Atrium — our workhorse on coastal properties, and 239 Smart is an authorized Polk dealer. The Atrium line exceeds ASTM D5894 UV and salt fog, MIL-STD 810 immersion and MIL-STD 883 Method 1009.8 salt and corrosion testing, with anodized aluminum tweeters, aluminum grilles and brackets, and stainless steel and brass hardware.
Sonos Outdoor by Sonance — for homes already running Sonos inside. Passive architectural speakers engineered for humidity, water, salt spray, heat and UV, powered by a Sonos Amp at 125 watts per channel, with one Amp driving up to three pairs. How do you want it to look? Some clients want the screen to be the focal point of the outdoor kitchen with speakers plainly visible under the soffit. Others want the technology gone entirely — landscape speakers hidden in the beds, no visible cable, nothing on the wall that reads as equipment. Both are legitimate and they lead to genuinely different products, so it is worth deciding before the mounts go in.
How do you actually use the space? A lanai that hosts Sunday football needs different coverage than a pool deck playing background music while people swim, which needs something different again from an outdoor kitchen where the screen is glanced at while cooking. We build zones around real use — pool, lanai, kitchen, dock — each with its own source and volume, or all grouped together for a party.

MOUNTS, WIRING & POWER
The Part That Decides Whether It's Still Right in Five Years
The display is what people research. The mount and the wiring are what determine how the installation ages.
Outdoor-rated mounts — primed with a powder coating, then finished with two additional layers of corrosion-resistant coating, with stainless steel hardware. Fixed and tilt, ceiling and ceiling-tilt for lanai soffits, articulating arms for viewing flexibility, and deck poles for patios with no wall to work with.
Anchored into solid block, not a hollow cell — most homes here are block behind stucco, and block is an excellent substrate only when the anchor lands in solid material rather than a void or a mortar joint. That is not something you find by eye through stucco. We locate the cell first and seal every penetration.
Outdoor-rated cable — standard in-wall CL2 and CL3 jacket degrades under UV and moisture until it fails or becomes a moisture path back into the house. Outdoor runs get UV-resistant or direct-burial rated cable, with conduit on exposed runs.
Weatherproof power — GFCI protected, weather-resistant receptacles with a deep in-use cover that stays sealed with a cord plugged in, not the flat flip-lid that only seals when it is empty.
